Research statement: In spite of current therapeutic techniques in visual restoration such as surgeries and prosthesis, we are still in preliminary steps of vision restoration and rehabilitation. Having the opportunity to be a part of a research network such as the enTRAIN VISION enables me to treat with the real-world events and phenomena in an innovative and creative way. Together with STREETLAB and Vision Institute researchers/experts, we try to do our best to discover and introduce novel solutions for today’s and future needs. My research topic includes the development of protocols and clinical endpoints to assess the benefits of therapeutics for low vision patients in their daily-life activities. We have this opportunity to fulfill this goal through a comprehensive study of human biomarkers (Eye Tracking, EEG, self-reported outcomes, etc.), experimental tasks, and task performance measures. The outcome of the research will not be limited to novel performance-based tests and will point out psychological and cognitive cues of adaptation and compensation strategies in low vision patients.

Short-bio: I am Ph.D. candidate of Neuroscience at Sorbonne University (UPMC campus). I hold a B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering (Bioelectric) from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran, Iran; 2015) and a M.Sc. degree in Bionics Engineering (with specialization in Neural Engineering) from the University of Pisa and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa, Italy; 2019). Through the university courses, I have learned various topics in Machine learning, Data analysis, and Signal processing. As a neuroengineer, I believe that my specialization is not limited to clinical applications or biomedical industry; but it enables me to be a part of different projects from different fields. In May 2021, I joined STREETLAB as an early-stage researcher in the framework of enTRAIN VISION network to do my Ph.D. project under the supervision of Dr. Angelo Arleo (Vision Institute) and Dr. Colas Authié (STREETLAB).

Keywords: Clinical endpoints, Performance-based test, Adaptation strategy, EEG, Eye tracking, Vision impairment, Retinitis Pigmentosa, Movement behavior analysis.
