Internship on psychophysics of contrast sensitivity and motion perception

Psychophysics of age-related impact on contrast sensitivity and motion perception (M2 project)

The Aging in Vision and Action Lab is interested in how natural aging impacts visual perception and spatial cognition. The current project deals with contrast sensitivity and motion perception using psychophysical approaches. We measure sensitivity to contrast and motion of young adults and elderly to investigate the underlying cause of age-related contrast sensitivity losses. We use an external noise paradigm to measure the level of internal noise of the visual system. This enables us to determine if age-related contrast sensitivity and motion perception deficits are due to an increase in internal noise or a decrease in processing efficiency.

The successful applicant will:

  • review the above-mentioned experimental literature
  • collect data, which consists in measuring the sensitivity in various conditions of young adults and elderly participants
  • analyse and model the data based

Candidates should have a keen interest in studying visual functions based on psychophysical approaches. Programming experience is not mandatory.
